MOTA Urges NO Vote on Medicaid Cuts

Lindsay Bright | Published on 5/29/2025

Medicaid (MO HealthNet) provides essential health insurance to many Missourians, including children, pregnant women, seniors, and people with disabilities. The federal government covers 65% of the program's costs, which also supports healthcare jobs. Cuts to this funding would strain Missouri's state budget, potentially impacting areas like K-12 education, and would reduce access to affordable healthcare.

Congress is currently planning to make changes to Medicaid. A couple of the options that are being discussed will:

  • Call for work requirements for enrollees.

  • Lessen how many federal dollars go towards each state.

One in five Missourians has Medicaid coverage. For a quick breakdown, read this from the Missouri Budget Project.

What's MOTA Doing?

The Advocacy Community of Practice (CoP) is on FIRE, working on all things advocacy at both a state AND federal level! With the passage of the "Big Beautiful Bill" through the House, we anticipate many cuts that will directly impact OT consumers (and the practice of OT) if this bill passes the Senate. In response, the Advocacy CoP has drafted the attached letters to send to Senators Josh Hawley and Eric Schmitt.
