A Master's degree is required of all new Occupational Therapists.  There are also Occupational Therapy Doctoral, PhD, and postprofessional doctoral programs that are becoming more common. 

Practitioners complete 3 to 9 months of supervised clinical internships and pass a national certification examination.  All states regulate Occupational Therapy practice.

Occupational Therapy Assistants have an Associate's degree.  Under the supervision of a registered and licensed Occupational Therapist, an Occupational Therapy Assistant collaborates with the treatment team to implement the Occupational Therapy plan of care.
