Join us for the MOTA Fall 2024 Conference at Saint Louis University and ignite your passion for occupational therapy. Exciting New Course Offering!

  • Join us for a comprehensive 2-hour introductory workshop presented by The Missouri Occupational Therapy Board on "The OT Compact," designed to familiarize practitioners with this transformative initiative. Since its inception in 2020, the OT Compact has been developed to streamline the licensing process for practitioners who travel frequently. This course will provide an overview of how the compact allows for a single, portable license that eliminates the need for multiple state-specific applications. Gain valuable insights into how this compact simplifies your practice, enhances mobility, and supports professional flexibility. This workshop is ideal for professionals looking to navigate and benefit from the evolving landscape of licensure in occupational therapy.

Objectives

  • Understand the purpose and development of the OT Compact.
  • Learn how the compact facilitates easier licensing across multiple states.
  • Explore the impact of the OT Compact on practitioners who travel frequently.

  • Cadaver Experience: Kick off your conference experience on Friday afternoon with an exclusive in-depth anatomy session featuring hands-on learning with cadavers. Get ready to explore the human body like never before with expert guidance! The cadaver session will take place on Friday afternoon and run concurrently with other conference session offerings.
  • Keynote Address: Wendy Stav will explore the historical and contemporary complexities of the occupational therapy practitioner's relationship with occupation, highlighting the need for reflection, change, and a renewed commitment to the profession's core values.
  • Annual Meeting and Town Hall: Stay informed about MOTA initiatives and share your insights.
  • Focused Workshop: MOTA President Jacque Sample will provide in-depth knowledge on the updated Missouri State Guidelines for School-Based Practice.
  • Wine and Cheese: Unwind and connect with fellow professionals at our Friday evening social.

Cadaver Experience 

Join us for an engaging session offering 3 CEUs provided by MOTA. The event will feature introductions to the Practical Anatomy & Surgical Education Program (PASE), which offers hands-on cadaver workshops and surgical training for healthcare professionals, including physicians, residents, and military personnel. Additionally, you’ll learn about the Adventures in Medicine & Science (AIMS) outreach program, which combines hands-on experiences and presentations to bring anatomy and science to life for students worldwide.

Auditorium Presentation: “The Amazing Human Brain” (1:00 - 2:30pm)



Presented by: Paul H. Young, M.D.


A native St. Louisan, Paul Henry Young is a world-renowned neurosurgeon.  He received his undergraduate and medical training at Saint Louis University. He completed his internship at UCLA Harbor General Hospital in Los Angeles and his residency in neurosurgery at Saint Louis University. He studied microneurosurgery during a fellowship at the University of Zurich, Switzerland under Professor M. Gazi Yasargil, recognized internationally as neurosurgeon of the century.


Dr. Young is a Clinical Professor of Neurosurgery and Center for Anatomical Science and Education at Saint Louis University.  In addition, he is the founder and director of the Microsurgery and Brain Research Institute of St. Louis (MBRI), providing research and training for international students in microneurosurgery.  He is also the founder and director of the Practical Anatomy and Surgical Technique Workshop (PASE) at Saint Louis University.  An international center for continuing education and first of its kind in the world, the PASE facility is widely regarded as the finest hands-on educational facility for healthcare professionals. Dr. Young is a Board Member for the Foundation for International Education in Neurosurgery and representative for Africa volunteerism.  He is on the Manuscript Review Board for World Neurosurgery, the Board Chair for Mercy Clinic South and a Board Member for Mercy East. 



Cadaver Demonstration: “Anatomy Refresher for OT Practitioners” (3:00 - 4:30pm)


Presented by: Laura Jenkins, MS, OTR/L and Nicole Weckherlin, OTR/L


Kick off your conference experience on Friday afternoon with an exclusive in-depth anatomy session featuring hands-on learning with cadavers. Get ready to explore the human body like never before with expert guidance! The cadaver session will take place on Friday afternoon and run concurrently with other conference session offerings.


Participants will have the opportunity to examine and review the human body during this hands-on cadaver experience. Laura and Nicole will guide the session, bringing years of experience as clinicians in a variety of settings but also both serving as anatomy education specialists through the AIMS program. Included content will be dissected thoracic and abdominal cavities, the upper and lower extremities and other organ specimens.
