Jacque Sample, DrOT, M.Ed., OTR/L

MOTA President

"Impact of the Updated MO State Guidelines for School-Based Practice"

Abstract: The MO State Guidelines for OT/PT Practice in Public Schools have not been updated since 2009! A LOT has happened since then, including the passing of federal laws (Every Student Succeeds Act - ESSA) and changes in state Medicaid billing. This year, in 2024, new guidelines are finally drafted! This session will walk attendees through the changes to the document. We will discuss how to use this document to support the full scope of practice for occupational therapy within the schools and beyond handwriting. Attendees will be able to identify supports, discuss potential barriers, and work through real-life scenarios regarding what OT should look like in the schools. So, bring examples and all of your questions to this session!

Bio: Jacque Sample, DrOT, M.Ed., OTR/L, has been practicing in occupational therapy since graduating from the University of Missouri in 1998. She advanced her education by earning a Masters of Special Education with an Emphasis in Autism from the University of Missouri in 2009, followed by a post-professional Doctorate of Occupational Therapy (DrOT) from Nova Southeastern University in 2016. Dr. Sample's doctoral work focused on the role of occupational therapy in post-secondary transition services for students with autism. Dr. Sample has practiced in forensic mental health, long-term adult rehabilitation, and acute orthopedics but has specialized in pediatrics for most of her career. Dr. Sample has held multiple leadership roles within the Missouri Occupational Therapy Association (MOTA) and will complete her final term as President in 2026. Dr. Sample is passionate about policy and advocacy, founding MOTA's Annual Hill Day event that will celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2025.
